Recipe.Social
Privacy Policy
Recipe.Social is an app for saving, importing, and sharing recipes. It is operated by MacVittie Industries LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. We don’t sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps or websites.
What we collect

We don’t collect your location, contacts, or advertising identifier, and the app contains no analytics or advertising SDKs.
Who can see what
- Nothing is visible without an account. You must be signed in to Recipe.Social to see anyone’s recipes, comments, likes, ratings, or profile.
- Your recipes and public recipe boxes follow your account’s privacy setting: Everyone (anyone signed in), Followers (only people you approve), or Only me. New accounts start as Everyone.
- Comments, likes, and ratings on a recipe are visible to whoever can see that recipe. The recipe’s owner can remove any comment on it.
- Follow requests. With the Followers setting, people ask to follow you and you approve or deny each request. Only you and the person asking can see a request. Switching back to Everyone approves any requests still waiting.
- Blocking. When you block someone, neither of you can follow, comment on, like, rate, or share a recipe box with the other, any follows between you end, and you stop seeing their recipes, comments, and profile. They aren’t told. Your list of blocked accounts is visible only to you. If your account is set to Everyone, a person you block can still come across your recipes in the main feed; choose Followers to keep your recipes from people you haven’t approved.
- Recipe boxes can also be private (only you) or shared (you and the members you add), whatever your account setting.
- Your profile basics (name, username, photo, and bio) are visible to anyone signed in, so people can recognise you and ask to follow you. Your follower list is visible only to people who can see your recipes.
- Your email address is never shown or made available to other users. It stays with our sign-in provider and isn’t stored on your profile.
AI features
Two optional features use third-party AI. Each asks for your permission the first time you use it, and neither sends anything until you agree. You can turn either one off at any time in Edit Profile → AI Features. Turning a feature off stops future use; it can’t recall content already processed.
- Import a recipe from a photo or PDF. The file you choose is sent to Google Cloud’s Vertex AI, where Anthropic’s Claude model reads it and extracts the recipe. The file is deleted from our storage once it has been processed.
- Generate a photo for a recipe. The recipe’s name, description, and ingredients are sent to Google Cloud’s Vertex AI, where Google’s Gemini model creates an image. Nothing else about you is sent. Generated photos are labeled as AI-generated in the app.
This processing happens under Google Cloud’s terms for Vertex AI, which do not permit Google to use this content to train its models without our permission. Google may temporarily keep requests to detect abuse of its services.
Automatic content screening
To keep Recipe.Social free of objectionable content, the text and photos people post for others to see (recipes, comments, recipe box names and descriptions, profile names, usernames, bios, and photos) are automatically checked by Google Cloud’s content moderation services when they are posted or changed. This check runs for everyone and isn’t optional, because it protects other users. Content that is almost certainly objectionable may be removed automatically, and anything borderline is flagged for a person to review. We keep a record of what was flagged and why, as described in “How long we keep data”. Google processes this content under the same Google Cloud terms described above.
Importing a recipe from a web link does not use AI. Your device fetches the web page directly and reads the recipe on the device, so that website sees a normal visit from your device.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of providers to run Recipe.Social. They process data only to provide their services to us.
- Google (Firebase and Google Cloud): sign-in, database, file storage, server functions, website hosting, app integrity checks, automatic content screening, and the AI features above
- Apple: Sign in with Apple and App Attest
- Anthropic: provides the Claude model used for recipe import, which runs on Google Cloud
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
How long we keep data
We keep your account and content for as long as your account exists. Uploaded import files are deleted as soon as they are processed. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, recipes, recipe boxes, comments, likes, ratings, follows, and uploaded photos, and we revoke Sign in with Apple access where it was used. Deleted data is removed from our active systems within 30 days. Reports, and the copy of reported content attached to them, are kept for up to one year so we can enforce our rules, and then deleted. If you delete your account, your identity is removed from any reports you made.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile, or delete any recipe, comment, or recipe box you created, in the app.
- Turn the AI features on or off in Edit Profile → AI Features.
- Delete your account from within the app, or by emailing us.
- Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, or to object to how we use it. Email us and we’ll respond within 30 days. You can also contact your local data protection authority.
Children
Recipe.Social is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Security and storage
Data is stored on Google’s infrastructure, protected by encryption in transit and access controls that limit each user to their own private data. Google may process data in the United States and other countries where it operates. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you of a breach as required by law.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and let you know in the app before the changes take effect.
