Terms of Use

These terms are an agreement between you and MacVittie Industries LLC (“we”, “us”) for your use of the Recipe.Social app and website (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Service.

1. Who can use Recipe.Social

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use it only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who also agrees to these terms.

2. Your account

You sign in with Google or Apple. You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your sign-in method secure. Choose a username that doesn’t impersonate anyone or infringe anyone’s rights. You can delete your account at any time from within the app.

3. Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users

Recipe.Social is a community for sharing food. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. You may not post, upload, or send anything that:

• harasses, threatens, bullies, or demeans any person or group;
• is hateful or discriminatory, including on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or age;
• is sexually explicit, pornographic, or exploits minors in any way;
• depicts or promotes violence, self-harm, or illegal activity;
• is spam, a scam, or misleading, including impersonating another person or brand;
• infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark, privacy, or other rights; or
• contains malware or tries to interfere with the Service.

We use automated tools to screen what people post, and content they identify as objectionable may be removed automatically or held for review.

You can report content or users that break these rules, and block users you don’t want to interact with, from within the app. We review reports and act on them within 24 hours, which can include removing content and suspending or permanently banning the account responsible, without notice.

4. Your content

You keep ownership of the recipes, photos, comments, and other content you post (“Your Content”). By posting Your Content, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute it, and to adapt it (for example, resizing photos), only as needed to operate and improve the Service. This license ends when you delete Your Content or your account, except for copies other users have already saved of content you made public.

You are responsible for Your Content and must have the rights to post it. When you share a recipe from a book, website, or another person, credit the source. We may remove any content at our discretion.

5. AI features

Recipe import from photos and PDFs, and recipe photo generation, use third-party AI and run only with your permission (see the Privacy Policy). AI output can be wrong. Always check an imported recipe against its source before you cook from it, especially ingredients, quantities, allergens, temperatures, and cooking times. Generated photos are illustrations, not pictures of the actual dish. You may not use the AI features to create content that breaks section 3.

6. Food safety

Recipes on Recipe.Social are shared by users and are not reviewed by us for accuracy, safety, or nutritional or allergen content. You are responsible for safe food handling and for deciding whether a recipe suits your dietary needs and allergies.

7. Acceptable use of the Service

Don’t misuse the Service. That includes accessing it by automated means, scraping it, reverse engineering the app except where the law allows, getting around usage limits or security features, or using it to break any law.

8. Ending your use

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we stop offering the Service. Sections 4 (for content others have saved), 5, 6, and 9 through 12 survive termination.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don’t promise the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that content on it is accurate.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, MacVittie Industries LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data or profits, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to US$50. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

11. Apple App Store terms

If you downloaded the app from Apple’s App Store, these terms are between you and MacVittie Industries LLC, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it, and is not responsible for any claims relating to it, including product liability, legal compliance, or intellectual property claims. If the app fails to meet any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple for a refund of the purchase price, if any; Apple has no other warranty obligation. You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo and are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located there, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is material, we will update the effective date above and notify you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated terms.
